Editing Office documents inside ioMoVo

Editing Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files in place, without downloading and reuploading.

Written by Zakaria Waletski

Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files open and edit directly inside ioMoVo, using an embedded ONLYOFFICE editor. You do not have to download a document, change it locally, and upload it back.

Why this matters beyond convenience

The download and reupload cycle is where document control quietly breaks. Someone ends up with a local copy, edits it a week later, and now there are two versions and no clear answer about which one is current. Editing in place keeps a single authoritative copy in the library.

For regulated teams there is a second benefit: the file never has to land on an endpoint at all, which removes a whole category of awkward questions about where a controlled document has been.

What you can edit

  • Word documents

  • Excel spreadsheets

  • PowerPoint presentations

Permissions apply

Your ability to open a document read only or to edit it follows the same role and group rules as everything else in the library. If you can view but not edit an asset, the editor opens in a read only state rather than letting you make changes that will not save.

In air gapped deployments

Office editing is fully supported in an air gapped deployment. The editor runs inside your environment along with the rest of the platform, so no document content leaves your boundary to be rendered.

Working alongside the Microsoft 365 plugin

The in app editor and the Microsoft 365 plugin solve different problems. The editor is for quick changes without leaving ioMoVo. The plugin is for people who work in the desktop Office applications all day and want the library available from there. Most teams end up using both.
